The story has finally come to its conclusion! When I began it, I thought it would be over within a few weeks. I had no idea it would stretch into two school years!
There’s one other reason I started the Lunch Note Project I haven’t really emphasized as much, but feel worth mentioning. It is true that I began it because I didn’t want to write the same note every day. But the bigger reason to write notes at all was that my daughter asked me to, because she was so lonely at lunch. She didn’t have anyone to talk to. So I began the story, and suddenly people at the lunch table wanted to see how it was going. Eventually, she had plenty of people to talk to. During these last pages of the story – not all that long ago – she came home and said she forgot to read the note, because she was talking to people too much. She apologized, but I was, of course, very happy. I’m glad I started the notes, but I also think they ended at the right time.
Nevertheless, it was a great deal of fun, and I’m sorry it’s over. But while this story has come to an end, I doubt that it’ll be the end of the Lunch Note Project. I’ve got two younger kids as well, and they’re going to need lunches too!
